Kerang Christian College is delighted to announce that the College will receive a $400,000 grant as part of the 2014 schedule of the Australian Government Capital Grants Program. The College will be constructing a Secondary School Classroom Wing, which will encompass a modern classroom, Primary and Secondary School video conferencing facility, break out room, teachers’ office and student amenities.
As we continue to expand into Secondary School, we aim to provide modern facilities to best meet the needs of 21st century learners. This expansion allow us to continue to meet the needs of our students as we offer Primary and Secondary School education to students from across this region.
The Secondary School Classroom Wing will be constructed on the northern end of the school grounds and will form the first part of a Senior School courtyard area at Kerang Christian College.
A key feature of this building project will be the development of a state-of-the-art video conferencing facility. This facility will allow students and teachers to work collaboratively with other schools and resource providers. This technology also provides scope for unique “virtual excursions”, such as allowing students to interact with a diver on the Great Barrier Reef, or speak to an astronaut at Houston Space Center.
This facility is a fantastic opportunity for our school community. We know that video conferencing is a tool that can break down geographical barriers and allow us to offer enriched educational opportunities for our students and teachers at Kerang Christian College.
The Australian Government’s contribution to this project under the Capital Grants Program (CGP) for non-government schools is allocated through the Victorian Independent Block Grant Authority (BGA).
Building Plans for the Secondary School Classroom Wing are currently being finalised prior to construction commencing early in the 2014 academic school year.
Kerang Christian College has completed three expansion projects since the opening of the Wyndham Street campus in 1995. In 2010, the Primary School building was extended with the addition of two classrooms and in the same year the College opened the Library building, which includes three classrooms, food technology facilities, offices and the school library. In 2013, the school has constructed a Visual Arts Wing incorporating a computer lab, a Primary and Secondary School Art room, textiles facilities, a general purpose classroom, storage and staff offices. The College also constructed a Year 9 Learning Centre in 2013.
In 2014, Kerang Christian College will offer studies between Prep and Year 10. The College is planning to expand to Year 11 in 2015 and Year 12 in 2016. For more information about Kerang Christian College, please call (03) 5450 3894.
